DDPP (Decentralized Digital Product Passport) is a phone app for the people who make and export products. Record materials, production steps and evidence where the work happens, put a QR code or NFC tag on the product, and anyone can open its passport with a phone camera.

If you make or export products

Build passports while the work is happening, not weeks later from spreadsheets.

  • Describe each product once: identifiers, materials, documents and certificates.
  • Issue a passport for each batch, and record every step with photos, files and where it happened.

If you scanned a code

You don’t need this app to read a passport: the code opens it in your phone’s browser. The app is for keeping track.

  • No account needed. The products you save stay on your phone.

How a passport comes together

  1. Describe the product

    Add it once, with its identifiers, materials and documents. The fields cover the information listed in ESPR Annex III, with extra sets for specific product groups. They come from our server, so they can follow new EU product rules without an app update.

  2. Record what happens

    Issue a passport for a batch and record each production step with photos, files and location. Nothing is overwritten: every change is kept as a new revision.

  3. Put a code on it

    Print a QR label or write an NFC tag from the phone. If your products have GTINs, the code follows the GS1 Digital Link standard.

  4. Keep it current

    Anyone can open the passport with a phone camera. You can keep adding to it (new documents, new events, a recall notice) for as long as it is online.

What applies when

The EU is introducing passports one product group at a time. This is where things stand on 19 September 2026.

    The ESPR enters into force

    Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 sets the framework for Digital Product Passports. Each product group gets its own rules later.

    The first six European passport standards

    EN 18216 and EN 18219 to EN 18223 cover identifiers, data carriers, data exchange, storage, the API and the data format. Their citation in the Official Journal gives them a presumption of conformity with the ESPR passport rules.

    The EU passport registry opens

    Companies can enrol and verify their identity now. Batteries are the first product group, and passports can be registered once their data model is defined. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1778 sets out how the registry works.

    Battery passports become mandatory

    For electric vehicle batteries, batteries for light means of transport such as e-bikes, and industrial batteries over 2 kWh, under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

Built to stay readable

Open formats
Each passport is a web page and machine-readable JSON. Its GS1 Digital Link answers with a linkset (RFC 9264), so other software can find both.
Recalls stay visible
A recalled passport stays online with the recall notice at the top, so people who scan the product see it.
History is kept
Once a passport is published, its identity is fixed, data changes become new revisions, and events can only be added.
Access levels
Every field is public, restricted or authority-only. Scans and public pages show the public fields only.
Hosted in the EU
Passport data lives on DDPP’s own server in Lithuania.
Four languages

Questions

Will this make my product compliant?

No software can do that on its own. For most product groups the EU has not adopted its passport rules yet, and there is no certification for passport service providers so far. DDPP is designed with the ESPR rules in mind and keeps the records a passport needs. Whether a product complies depends on the product and its data.

Do people need the app to read a passport?

No. The code opens the passport in any phone’s browser, free of charge. The app adds NFC reading, a list of the products you saved and, for businesses, the tools to create passports.

Do I need GS1 barcodes?

No. Every DDPP passport has its own identifier and link. If your products have GTINs, add them and your codes will use the GS1 Digital Link format.

We export from Türkiye. Does this apply to us?

A product needs a passport once the rules for its product group apply in the EU, wherever it is made. The company that places it on the EU market, often your importer, is responsible for the passport, so expect them to ask you for the data. DDPP works in English, Turkish, German and Spanish, and you can share passports with your EU partners.

What about the EU registry?

It opened on 20 July 2026. Companies can enrol now with an EU Login account and a qualified electronic seal, but no passport can be registered until the first product group, batteries, has its data model. The registry’s interface for software like ours is not open yet. DDPP shows which data each passport still needs before you publish it.

What does it cost?

Reading passports is free. While the app is in testing, issuing passports is free as well.

Where is the data kept?

Passports are stored on DDPP’s own server in Lithuania, in the EU. The products you save in the app stay on your phone and are not sent to us.
